That's the same nervousness and worry that I have now. Have yet to arrange a meet now so definitely hoping to meet someone who know what they are doing. To be able to challenge appropriately an inexperienced fighter. Much like an experienced racket ball player who has total control of a game with a weaker player. He can trash the weaker player at anything but instead chose to play to the weaker player level and allows the weaker play have a good match.
I have the same "worries" as Metuck12 said. But i also think that a profile can tell you much about someone to cause you can check how many fights he had? What are the reviews towards him? Is he a nice person and fight safety? Then you can always start a conversation and just check if you are on the same level. You can also discuss what the opponent would like u to wear, and ask what he likes to wear and then maybe you can come to nice hot agreement. So dont worry and just follow these tips and i hope you get some nice matches. Good luck new players and @blueorca
Communication before the match is important. Some guys have fantasies of being manhandled while some want a competitive match. You sound like you prefer the latter. Exchanging holds and learning a few is a god method to get accustomed initially. Guys have different learning curves, I had a fairly athletic life and took to wrestling fairly intuitively, others need practice (I still need to practice escapes). Find someone who will go at your level but also willing to push you. Sometimes you just need to get trapped in an arm bar to realise you made a big mistake. Losing is also learning.
Bring a few pairs of trunks - you can always change ; )
I know I was crazy nervous about my first 'meet'. Is it safe? Am I good enough? Will it hurt (more than I want it too)? Will they laugh at my trunks?
I screwed my courage to the sticking place and finally went through with a match and it went way better than I could have hoped. What advice, tips, experiences can you share for guys who may be in the same desire/reluctance place I was?
