chloroform is extremely dangerous and unpredictable. it may not have any effect for up to 20 minutes, and even then has the potential to kill the person. ether is much safer and can be bought at a drugstore (i bought some about 30 years ago), but it can sometimes have the unpleasant side effect of extreme nausea and vomiting.

it's better to just act the part.

Having had experience with both ether and chloroform - and been on both sides of the rag, they are very different. Both take a few minutes of consistent exposure to knock a guy out, Most depictions get it all wrong. The closest Ive seen is a video by UCW where Austin gets chloroformed by Coleman. I'd love to be chloroformed, in fact I do have some, but not for wrestling. It is mostly ok, but it can kill, so 'mostly' isn't really a good enough safety factor. Different people react differently and unpredictably. Early use of chloroform did kill some patients, though of course for most people it was a blessing.

Another problem with chloroform is that it's an industrial solvent and isn't applied like you see in movies and TV. a soaked rag over the case will cause severe burning to the skin it contacts. You have to hold it under the face or just in front of it. Good luck with accomplishing that with a struggling opponent

An idea I thought of is what if the speedos or jockstrap, etc had chloroform and the loser is the one who gets knocked out and wakes up to being tied for the winner to punish him in anyway he pleases.
