FIGHTING SHIRTLESS

Most men prefer to fight or wrestle shirtless. This is true of men who are straight as well as gay or bi. So the need to be bare-chested when fighting clearly goes beyond sexual attraction. Pro wrestlers have always taken their shirts off in the ring, for example. Interestingly, collegiate rules require a singlet.

I'm interested in hearing about whether you prefer to wrestle shirtless (as opposed to in a singlet or other gear), and if so, why it's important to you to take your shirt off before engaging in combat with another man, and what effect it has on your fighting or wrestling abilities. I'm also curious about why you think college rules require singlets,, even when other collegiate sports like swimming and diving permit men to be shirtless.

I like to wrestle shirtless, and I like my opinion to be shirtless as well, even if I'm not attracted to him physically. To me, fighting is a form of male bonding, and being bare-chested is part of that. I also instantly feel more aggressive the minute I take my shirt off in front of an opponent.

Shirts off engages the animalistic instinct that adds to the competition, or whatever it is you happen to be doing.

Totally agree with your philosophy on shirtless combat. I prefer boxing shirtless and really dislike the fact that USA Boxing requires amateur boxers to complete wearing a T shirt or singlet. Up until the late 1970s, amateur boxers competed wearing trunks and no shirts.

Agreed, clothes-less is better ... shirts off is a primal way of showing your opponent your body strength for the coming combat.
I prefer naked ... true primal man to man bonding! BAck to the ancient Greek athletes.

Most asexual men also prefer fighting shirtless. It's a very primal thing. The bonding is just as intense.

Collegiate wrestling was also pretty shirtless from WWII to the early 1960's.

I've wrestled in singlets before - and have just this week ordered some to start using to mix things up - but that's been only rarely and I've always preferred the look, feel and freedom of being shirtless.

The contact as so many have said is such an important part of a meet, the skin-to-skin when pinned or working a hold is always more effective shirtless than with a barrier of clothing in the way. The heat, the physical feel of the muscles beneath, even sometimes the hammering heartbeats as we undertake the match.

I suppose it's also a clear display of what you're bringing to the match; a lot of animals roar and fluff up, wrestlers lose their shirts and flex ;)

Excellent take on wrestling shirtless.
I would respectfully add that the skin-to-skin, body 2 body contact is intensified when two shirtless guys start off their fight with a hard staredown, pressing their bodies and faces against each other.

That’s moving to a kink rather than combat though isn’t it?

I'd agree with you that it is a kink, but it's understood as a choice if both wrestlers want it. Not a requirement.

As a guy who trains multiple times a week in a Gi I don’t mind either way, rashguards stop ringworm and other nasties, I’m happy to go shirtless o I’ll choke you in a Gi match, there isn’t much difference

I prefer shirtless, but I think people who like the other things on just prefer to keep it strictly about the sport and less about the primal competitive nature of it or the exciting sense of domination. It's kind of the difference between bare knuckle boxing or with gloves. I like sensory experiences, some are just trying to do a cushioned test of strength and skill.

Im in it to win it but it's easier to see the guys muscles flexing etc. Then you know what you must worship if you lose

Well to be blunt, I've seen many men remove their shirts before a fight and it cases more nausea than intimidation. So it all depends on the physical conditioning of the combatants. For some, shirts/torso coverings (full or partial) are a good thing.

If I had an opponent that had a hairy chest or back he would definitely need to wear a shirt. If he did not, I would.

I prefer shirtless or a gi, depending on the kind of match. A gi offers more grip for certain holds in ne waza. But for submission I feel more vulnerable facing my opponent shirtless, also showing them that I don't hesitate to face them without any protecting cover at all. Also, if body shots are allowed, being shirtless shows the target nicely.

Shirtless is the only way to wrestle. Both men on the mats/ring. Both exposed. The sweat, contact make the match all the more intense and aggressive. Deep down, as men, we are wired to fight. Taking off the shirts shows our physique in an attempt to intimidate our opponent.
