What should happen with the "mild" photo category?

Important! Please read and vote!

Dear members,

I am thinking about ways of streamlining the photo moderation process. There are some things I'm planning to do, this includes clarification of the existing categories, as well as examples for each type of moderation.

One of the things I'm considering is eliminating the "mild" photo category. The mild category is, presently, for photos in underwear, speedos, lycra, and in general for photos that are not really X-rated, but are just a bit too "sexy".

At this time, mild photos are handled exactly like "clean" photos, with one exception: they are hidden from unregistered visitors. This is a small benefit, and one that I considered for a long time to be important. On the other hand, mostly due to the many shades of gray between "clean" and "sexual" content, the distinction between clean and mild made moderation harder, and as a consequence, slower and less consistent.

There are basically three things that can be done:

  • Merge the "mild" and "clean" categories. This might seem like a small change (after all, mild photos behave almost like clean photos, right?), but it is a big philosophical departure from the original roots of AllFighters. The original idea was a fighting personals site. Going this part deviates from the original path in favor of a fighting and dating site.

  • Merge the "mild" and "xxx" categories. This is a return to the site's original notion. It will affect a bunch of members, though: about 1/4 of all photos are "mild", these photos will disappear overnight.

  • Leave things as they are. After all, we have lived with the "mild" category for a while now.

Please consider carefully, and vote. As always, your comments are welcome.

The way it's set up now is the "best" of the alternatives.

Shades of grey is fine, that's what crowd-sourcing picture ratings is for. I haven't seen anyone wait a significant amount of time for a picture to be rated.

Besides, this is a fighting site, and if you want to fight, you register and get on with it. People who just click onto the side from "outside" shouldn't just instantly have access to everything.

That and it would be helpful if, when people Google the site, and Google picks a picture at random from a profile, that it's not of someone's crotch.

The moderation system is inconsistant. I moderated two photoe recently that were almost identical and I put both in the clean category. The final moderation put both photos in different categories dispite both photos being very similar. Would recommend going to Public, gallery or private only to simpily things.

In my opinion things should also remain as they are right now. I don't think that the photos in underwear should be considered as explicit sexual content though. As you correctly stated this is a fighting website, but a large part (if not the largest) of the fun is the gear and the looks of the opponent in them. I also agree that people that aren't registered shouldn't have full access to everything.

I think it should remain the way it is at present.
After all this is supposed to be a fighting site.

Personally i have no wish for it to turn into another dating site as we have enough of those already.

At present the site already seems to be going down that road with a certain amount of the so called fighters being nothing more than guys who want to (bed wrestle)only.

I think 'mild' should be merged with 'sexual content', returning to the original idea of a fighting site rather than a dating site. The fact 'mild' photographs are currently allowed as profile pics just gives people the wrong idea: that this is primarily a sex site instead of a fight site. I have nothing against 'mild' photos as such, but they shouldn't be profile pics.

I think the biggest issue is the classification given by those moderating (note this is not the site moderators but the members)

for instance last night these two pictures were given two different classifications

http://www.allfighters.info/photo/34509 http://www.allfighters.info/photo/34510

34509 - gallery only 34510 - clean profile picture

Why!

Access for unregistered members, bare basic only and perhaps just the first public pic, if their interested in the site purposes they'll sign up.

And on a related topic why are pics a member uploaded as "restricted" moderated at all? surely the fact they have been loaded into this category means the member only wishes to share with specific people and moderation is breaking that wish.

If the intent is to be a fighting site and not a dating site, why are all the wrestling action shots hidden away as XXX? Granted, some really are XXX, but many are not. There is nothing remotely sexual in good action shots, especially the collegiate-style ones.

Your logic on this escapes me. Seems you would put the clean wrestling action photos as easily visible in the profiles. Then put the undie shots ("mild") in with the XXX, since they are all non-wrestling and sexually-oriented. I realize though that would probably require re-tagging wrestling shots and splitting them into clean and XXX.

Just my 2 cents.

Action shots are not hidden. They are in the gallery.

The problem with this lies in the fact that 'photos in undies' can be split into two groups (for the purpose of this, a fighting-oriented site): those that are obviously fighting related - such as those where guys are wearing boots and speedos, and in a fighting stance/pose/hold etc, and those that are clearly not - ie the guy is reclined in a chair wearing nothing but boxer shorts. So, I guess what I'm saying is that, while the old system is good, the terms clean, mild and XXX shouldn't be applied to this site. It should be Fighting related or Not fighting related.

I agree with you in principle, unfortunately the rule you propose is too subjective to be practical.

It seems like these photo categories are not only time-gobbling to moderate, they likely also take time in the form of addressing confused/aggrieved members who disagree with verdicts. It seems to me that SIMPLIFYING this issue gives up a little and gains a lot for an Admin who is clearly investing a whole lot of time for the benefit of our community. I've voted to un-complicate.

Because I can not make a monetary support to this website, I was always willing to help and participate actively. I tried to contribute to this site, providing assistance to the moderation of photos (I have found it useful to do this). Many times it is easy to see clearly the criteria for classifying photos. It is not always clear (either by my translation into Spanish, or the criteria of each person, even people who correct my mistakes), but apparently there were some photos that I have not been able to rank well. Iput interest and dedication in making this little work, but it is often confusing. I hope that these changes are for the better and also this will help expedite the process. I'm always willing to help if I can do something else. Just tell me!

I would say merge the mild and clean. I know you don't want to turn it into a dating site but in my experience that is the kind of messages I get quite a lot of. I think you cover it in the profiles with the option of having 'want sex' and 'don't want sex' on there.

I'm a newcomer to this site, but the issues raised in your request for a vote are important throughout web communities. I agree with those who say that visitors who do not register as "fighters," and meet the disclosure rules for same, should be given limited, text only access without photos. This will also prevent the site from being milked for the photos, and thus the identities of members. This is a distinct possibility given the power and ubiquity of facial recognition software. All photos should be private to the members. With that protection in place I would vote to merge the mild and clean categories prospectively only. However, my thought is that a more nuanced approach to existing categorization should be considered. a. present status and visibility of existing photos should remain unchanged. A notice of the prospective change should be sent to members and invited to change any categories of existing pictures. Provide a time period for this to be done. Sharing of adult photo’s. Here is where the “intent of the site comes in.” I suggest that “adult photo’s” be visible by and between those who accept each other as buddies.

In my opinion you can either leave it that way or merge it with sexual content. It wouldn't be nice to change the philosophy of the site into a fighting/dating because meanwhile there are tons of dating sites, not that much for JUST FIGHTERS.... i mean, i'm not searching for a date here being str8, and i wouldn't like accessing to the site if everyone is under the idea or presupposition that dating is an option and not just a plus...

Ps. No more photos in undies sounds great, that gives bad impression. But if someone is in PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING UNDIES with kneepads or boots, you shouldn't tag it mild but clean ;).
